Conservationist's just don’t get it.

 Earl Kirby, August 14, 2008

Conservationist's just don’t get it.  Investing in alternative energy to replace fossil fuels won’t produce the results they seek for decades.  Replacing fossil fuels with alternative energy, while a lofty goal, is no more feasible than drilling now and expecting the production of enough oil to solve the energy crisis.  Further when they say we must drive fewer miles and drive smaller vehicles they show a complete lack of understanding of the American spirit.  Americans don’t want to drive fewer miles.  We want more freedom to drive more miles.  Americans don’t want to drive smaller vehicles.  We want larger, more luxurious vehicles.  The American ideal is to work harder, smarter, and longer in order to reap the benefits of our increased labor.  That means bigger and better, NOT smaller and less.

Drilling now does not solve the problem now but it adds to the solution 5 years from now.  Alternative energy does not solve the problem now but it adds to the solution 10-20 years from now.  Both are reasonable actions and need to be done.  As we look to solve our energy problems we must not discount any possible solution.  Setting lines in the sand that can’t be crossed in attempts to solve problems is not productive.  Why doesn’t anyone wish to discuss the potential of hemp oil extraction?  I highly recommend a Google search for hemp4fuel.
