| The Iraq War Debate Goes
On and On. Earl Kirby Feb 10, 2007 The Iraq war debate goes on and on and on. Whether you are for or against the war, I have to wonder why no one is willing to call out those who use totally false statements to support their arguments. First let me inform all of my conservative friends we are not at war. We haven’t been at war since 1948 when we joined the UN. The last time we declared war was World War Two. Our President didn’t ask for a declaration of war and congress hasn’t given him one. Yes, congress authorized the use of force but they did not have the determination to declare all out war. This is the prime reason the Presidents hands are tied now when it comes to his role as Commander in Chief. An authorization to use force can be removed and persons who are opposed to such authorizations are not subject to sedition charges. The wiretapping program would be totally legal if the country was actually in a state of war. The fact that the country is not in a state of war makes the wiretapping without proper court supervision illegal. Second, let me inform all of my liberal friends that you are wrong about the WMD. The facts are that not only did Iraq have WMD but we knew it for a very special reason. The United States gave them the stuff. Furthermore I find it rather disgusting the fact that every Senator in office during the Regan and Clinton administrations knew about it and the Armed Services, and the Intelligence committees approved of it. If you remember we provided the gas that Sad am used against Iran in the Iraq-Iran war. We also provided Sadam with anthrax cultures so he could develop even more potent weapons. Very simply Iraq had WMD. We knew it because we gave the WMD to them. Third, I get real tired of both my friends on the left and my friends on the right claiming that the war in Iraq is not winnable militarily. What a bunch of pure nonsense. Any war is winnable militarily. Any war is especially winnable with the might, power, technology and total force of the United States military of 2007. There isn’t a country or a group in the world that stand up to such power if it was ever totally released. Now, you may say that you don’t want the country to use the total power and consider such use to be unjust, unwise, or just plain draconian but don’t claim that the war is unwinnable. Lastly, it bothers me greatly that our leaders haven’t recognized the true nature of the conflict we are in. Our enemy in this case calls the war jihad. Jihad is holy war. Jihad is religious war. I do not believe that we will win the conflict until we accept the fact that we are engaged in a religious war. Once we accept that fact we might then be able to use their religion against them. During the 1910 Muslim insurrection in the Philippines General Pershing announced that he would bury all of the killed insurgents in a common grave with the parts of pigs. Two weeks later the insurgency was over as the Muslims laid down their guns and went home. Ah, if we only had a General Pershing now.
